Finding Genius: Florian Otto, Cedar
Cedar founder and CEO, Florian Otto, shares his vision for healthcare payments and billing, serving 10M patients, and the company's recent $102M Series C financing led by a16z
Florian Otto, the CEO and Founder of Cedar, was formerly a maxillofacial surgeon before becoming a healthcare consultant with McKinsey, the CEO of Groupon Brazil, and ZocDoc’s head of sales.
In 2015, Florian’s wife fainted and was rushed to the emergency room. She received a stack of bills for the treatment from imaging centers, the ER, and labs, and eventually, a bill collector reached out for bills that had never reached her address.
Florian took the jump to start Cedar, a healthcare payments platform. In 2020, Cedar raised a $102M Series C led by a16z with participation from existing investors including Founders Fund and Thrive.
In our conversation, Florian shares why regulation + a complicated insurance system has led to a convoluted U.S. Healthcare technology experience, how to earn participation from health systems, and growing the platform to serve 10 million patients
