Social isolation has been felt by most during the COVID-19 pandemic but seniors have been impacted by this more than most. Prior to the pandemic, seniors depended on family members or friends to help with tasks around the house, getting groceries, or in its simplest form, companionship. Andrew Parker, the founder of Papa, saw this in his own life and launched Papa to pair older adults and families with Papa Pals for companionship and assistance with everyday tasks. Pre-pandemic, most of this support was done in-person so when the pandemic hit, Parker remembers friends checking in on him wondering how his business would survive.
In this interview, Parker walks us through how the company was well-positioned to transform itself into a telehealth company and continue to support seniors across the country. Papa has grown 600% year over year as of 2021, is working with health plans to provide a real impact on Social Determinants of Health, and recently closed a $31 million Series B with Canaan Partners, Comcast Ventures, Sound Ventures, Initialized Capital, Pivotal Ventures, and Behance Founder, Scott Belsky.
